When Can You Get an Agent in Hollywood? When You No Longer Need One!

This is no joke; it has become an industry truth. Unless you’ve written a bestselling novel or have an award-winning film under your first-time-filmmaker belt, you will not be attractive to an agent. This is not meant to be discouraging; it’s meant to motivate you to explore alternate ways to bring attention to your work and move forward without representation for your script or for yourself as a writer. The landscape for writers has drastically changed – Hollywood expects you to assemble a strong team of professionals to produce your project, and acquire the funds necessary to pay for it. Scary, right? It doesn’t have to be. I’ve seen many writers baby-step their way to success. If you stand at the bottom of the Everest and look up, the thought of reaching the top may seem insurmountable. But, if you gear up, partner up, and begin carefully placing one step in front of the other – with a bit of luck, you may just reach the top. This process that I am speaking of is the business side of being a screenwriter. It’s still part of the creative process; it’s just applying your creativity in a different way. There is no point for a writer to continue banging on doors that no longer open. Writers need to evolve, recognize the specifics of their challenge, and start to climb.

Screenwriting Services will be discussing the various ways of bringing attention to your project in the upcoming webinar, The Business of Being a Screenwriter! The webinar is FREE, and tickets are still available.
